Discover Aberdeenshire's Coastal Charm
The fishing villages of Aberdeenshire excell when it comes to charm and their picture-perfect nature. Many are also home to a local beach, some have wonderful long stretches of unspoilt sandy beach whereas others have pebble beaches where you can enjoy tossing pebbles in to the waves. All have in common a strong fishing tradition, which in many villages lives on to this day where there will usually be a resident population of fishermen who brave the harsh cold North Sea and those who work on larger boats may even venture almost in to Arctic waters.
You won’t find a grand choice of cafes or restaurants even in the villages used to attracting locals and tourists for days out. This is a tranquil unspoilt area of Scotland where tradition holds firm and you’re more likely to find local pubs than fancy restaurants or glitzy cafes. Here it’s all about keeping it real, enjoying life’s little pleasures and may be even going retro and packing a picnic and a flask of tea and grabbing an ice cream at the local shop.
Coming from this area of Scotland, there are some fishing villages I really can’t recommend highly enough, my best picks are as follows:
